Apologies for any delays. Writing for me is usually feast or famine. I guess that’s my “creative process” though mostly I still deal with bouts of impostor syndrome. I get through it by constantly making notes for stories/characters/situations and I hope they will come to fruition in future PTP releases.
Speaking of future releases, Queens: Rulers of Feminist Comedy is ready for your support on Kickstarter. We’re hoping to compensate the creators and contributors to this book as a way to say thanks for being part of this special project. You can check it out at this link:https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/queenscomic/queens-conquering-sexism-with-feminist-comedy?ref=creator_nav
And, of course, sharing it all over your social networking site of your choice is always encouraged.
Jean and I, before I got Thanosed
In my time with PTP, I’ve participated in these anthologies mostly as a challenge to myself. If you would’ve asked me several years ago to write a children’s story or a horror story, I would’ve talked (at length) my way out of not doing it. But when I wrote my story for Impressions, I was bit by the writing bug. So when 2017’s anthologies came around, I made an effort to contribute to them as well. This year, it was decided that Feminist Comedy would be the theme for the anthology. Not to get too political, but I remember when the women’s marches were happening in 2017, I saw fair amount of social media posts from conservative-minded women who were making light of what was going on. When it came time to put the call out to anyone who wanted to work on this project, I made sure to invite them as well as liberal-minded females. To me, feminism isn’t about taking over in areas that are dominated by men. It’s about having the options and opportunities to do so, when and if possible. Most of the women – from either ideology – that I invited chose not to participate and that’s their prerogative.
I initially wrote two stories for Queens. One was a bit too dark of a comedy and I was told it was “too long, visually” so that’s my first rejection. I survived it and wrote another story that would become Llamada Del Gato (Catcall) with art done by Sir Rabbitkins.
I wrote it with my mother in mind. As a Latino-medio, I grew up influenced by my Mexican mother. If there is one constant that I’ve experienced, it’s that in the Latino community, no matter how much of a badass some dude thinks he is, his madre won’t hesitate to bust out la chancla on him if he acts the fool. And so that’s what inspired me to write this story. As for that dark comedy, time will tell if that will come to fruition in a future PTP release….
Standby for further developments.
